Storytelling: Once Upon a Time

From a young age, I loved stories. I was the kid who got in trouble for reading R.L. Stine under the covers with a flashlight…and later, couldn’t sleep.
My parents said to pick a major. Given my fascination with storytelling, it was only natural to pick Literature…so there I was, with a degree…
...but, then again…what do you even do with a Literature degree?
I doubt many literature enthusiasts end up in what you might call a traditional, literature-driven career path, so I don’t expect my story to be unique.
So, to recap - Graduation. Rejection letters. Panic mode. Time to pivot.
A couple years later, MBA obtained! “Safe mode” activated.
"From a young age, I loved stories."
"There's a field, in business, where you create stories?!"
My entry into business was through the world of digital marketing and I was entranced. You mean there’s a field, in business, where you create stories?!
Branding, SEO, you name it, I was in awe of this enormous ecosystem that I had, unknowingly, co-existed with all of my life, absorbing the stories of brands I engaged with every day.
The one that stuck with me most is the story of the Dos Equis guy - "the most interesting man in the world." While all of the other beer commercials showed partying frat guys, the Dos Equis campaign went in another direction - an older, well-traveled, sophisticated gentleman at the end of a bar, drinking Dos Equis.
He’s the man you want to talk to. The man you want to hear tales from.
This isn’t the guy you are now. He’s the man you hope to become.
The World of Business

Life as a Game Designer

I was now a marketing specialist at a video game localization company, which naturally led me to question: How do you make video games?
(Back in high school, a Final Fantasy game taught me that games do, in fact, have extraordinary storytelling capabilities.)
There’s a lot I could write here but I’ll keep it short - Given my long-standing interest in my Scandinavian heritage, I moved to Sweden for nearly 2 years to study video game design - the perfect combo.
I then had, perhaps, an even more extraordinary experience - the opportunity to live life as a digital nomad for almost 2 years, traveling across Southeast Asia while making video games and consulting in digital marketing & SEO.
I explored new cultures, new languages, temples; enjoyed the many night markets and connected with others.
I miss it, all the time.
"Life as a digital nomad."
"I miss it, all the time."
"Connecting the old-fashioned way."
Why am I sharing this story with you? How does digital marketing connect with video game design?
Chances are, you have a story just as unusual as mine. It’s also likely that there are unexpected commonalities across your seemingly disconnected journey.
So how do marketing and video games connect? It’s about story.
From my BA in Literature, to my journey across the world, storytelling has remained at the heart of it all.
You make meaningful connections by making meaningful connections. You talk, you share - your successes, your failures, your losses. It’s how you create lasting relationships, meaningful relationships, relationships that go beyond AI-driven content.
It’s about connecting with people the old-fashioned way.
I’ve always had this driving force to learn about people and other cultures, and that driving force, well, it’s the force that drives KC SEO.
It’s About Connection

It’s About You

I want to learn about you, your story. How did you get here? What drives you?
I’m here because I love small businesses, local events, city revitalization projects, the non-profits that better our society - all of it.
And I want you to succeed. Not only to succeed, but thrive!
I’m here because I want to make that happen.
There are a thousand different directions I could take KC SEO Consulting, but this is where I want to be - working with the small businesses that bring magic to the PnW.
I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Silicon Valley years ago. While there are days where I miss the sun and the warmth, the PnW hasn’t disappointed.
From road trips to Yellowstone and Oregon, and camping trips to the Cascades and Mt. Rainier, I’m fortunate I can explore the landscape of this region…and the small businesses that support it.
I want to work with the businesses I love to interact with, the places that make me feel more me, the places that improve our world, the places that help me enjoy time with family and friends, the places that forge a connection with our national parks and local wildlife.
I’m here to elevate your marketing strategy. I want to share your story so you can do what you do best.
"I want you to succeed."
"I want you to thrive."
"I want to share your story."
